Collect enough context to compare two displays.

Define the outcome

Check the GPS label before interpreting the number. Good, poor, acquiring, lost and denied states describe different conditions. A large numeral is still an approximate phone reading, not a calibration certificate. Configure units and alerts while stationary. Sound or vibration requires the relevant setting and supported device behaviour; neither should become the only cue you depend on.

The main instrument reads live speed from the location service rather than waiting for a trip to start. That makes it possible to inspect a current reading without recording a session. Waymark also shows the state of the location fix, and it distinguishes a missing or stale reading from a live one. The displayed speed and the saved trip maximum answer different questions.

Three checks to complete

A single difference does not establish which instrument is correct.

  • Match units
  • Record the GPS state
  • Compare while keeping attention on safe travel

Final review

A passenger notes readings from two devices for personal reference. This is an illustrative scenario, not measured field-test evidence.

For an instrument check, use a familiar location and observe the interface while stopped or ask a passenger to note the behaviour. Write down the device, profile, selected units and GPS state. Avoid changing several settings during one comparison. A repeatable observation is more useful than a single striking screenshot with no indication of how it was produced.
