The task
Open the correct saved place and confirm that current location is available. The app may use a compass heading while stationary and a movement course when moving sufficiently for that source to be useful. The screen identifies the source. If a heading is unavailable, a numeric bearing can still convey direction without pretending that a reliable relative arrow exists.
Find It Back computes the straight-line distance and bearing from your current position to a saved place. It does not calculate a road route, inspect access rights or know which side of a river you can cross. The arrow is relative to the direction of the phone when a usable heading exists. The distance is a geometric relationship between two coordinates, not a walking-time estimate.
Follow the workflow
A source transition should not be interpreted as the place moving.
- Read the source label
- Distinguish movement direction from phone orientation
- Review guidance after stopping safely
Review the result
A user notices the heading label change during a return session. This is an illustrative scenario, not measured field-test evidence.
Treat arrival as an area supported by the current and saved accuracy, not an exact spot on the ground. Waymark uses the larger uncertainty and a minimum arrival radius rather than declaring precision that it does not have. As you approach, compare the surrounding landmarks with your place note or photo. Check the actual terrain before choosing where to go next.
Quick reference
| Item | Meaning | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Bearing | Direction from current position to the place | A geometric direction, not a turn instruction |
| Relative arrow | Bearing compared with available heading | Read the heading-source label |
| Arrival area | Area supported by saved and current uncertainty | Recognise the real place using context |
