Compare the right things
The current Waymark export creates CSV files for saved trips and saved places, then opens the device share sheet. Trip rows contain dates, start and end times, distance, moving and stopped minutes, maximum speed, vehicle and label. Place rows contain name, latitude, longitude, accuracy at capture, capture time and note. These files are summaries and bookmarks, not a breadcrumb track of every location sample.
Open the resulting CSV and read its headers before using a spreadsheet formula. Distance may be in kilometres or miles and the speed header identifies the chosen unit. Place coordinates are written to six decimal places, while the separate accuracy column preserves the capture uncertainty. A tidy decimal string is a formatting choice and must not be treated as a promise of six-decimal-place positional accuracy.
A like-for-like workflow
Opening or dismissing the share sheet alone is not a backup.
- Choose a destination
- Finish its save flow
- Open the resulting file
Interpret the difference
A user saves a CSV into a files app. This is an illustrative scenario, not measured field-test evidence.
Save the trip first and select the desired unit system before exporting. The export uses the current distance-unit preference for trip distance and maximum-speed columns. Choose a destination you control and wait for it to finish receiving the file. Merely opening a share sheet is not proof that a durable copy was created in a folder or another service.
Quick reference
| Item | Meaning | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Trip CSV | Completed-session summary rows | Not a stream of every sampled location |
| Place CSV | Names, coordinates, capture accuracy, time and notes | Does not include attached photo files |
| GPX track | Not produced by the current export | Use a separate appropriate tool when a track is required |
